Halloween can be a scary time of year. People have phobias of spiders, bats, snakes, dentists – wait, what? Dentists? If you are afraid to go to the dentist, rest assured you’re not alone. Many people experience some degree of fear with dental visits. The good news for you – and them – is that we’ve dealt with this issue before and we’re prepared to help you work through it.
At Moore Family Dental, we take our patients’ comfort very seriously. There are a few things about our office that might help you feel less apprehensive about visiting the dentist.
- We understand. We are sensitive to your needs and the needs of your family members because we deal with our own concerns, just like you do. Our staff members are kind and professional; they will never dismiss your fears or belittle you about them in any way.
- We have worked hard to create an environment that is relaxed and inviting. Our exam areas are warm and comfortable, rather than cold and clinical. In addition, you can choose the music you’d like to listen to or the program you’d like to watch on television during your appointment.
- We invite you to come in and familiarize yourself with the space before your first appointment. Just give us a call to let us know ahead of time and we’d be happy to meet you and show you around. This can go a long way toward making you feel familiar with your surroundings, and therefore more comfortable, during your first visit.
- We believe strongly in using technology to make your dental visit as pleasant as possible. That’s why we use innovations like the CompuDent Wand. This new way of administering anesthesia eliminates the need to use a needle; this is a major relief for patients who have always dreaded that aspect of a dental appointment.
We also have a few tips designed to help you minimize your anxiety.
- Consider bringing a friend or loved one to your appointment with you. A friendly, familiar face can be a great comfort.
- If you want to come in at a specific time of day, let us know. We’ll always do our best to accommodate you on any request and this is no exception. If you’d prefer to come in the morning so you can spend the rest of the day knowing that your appointment is behind you, we’ll try to find an appointment time that works for you. On the other hand, if afternoons are more relaxing times for you and you’d prefer to come in then, just let us know.
- Limit caffeine on the day of your appointment. Caffeine is a stimulant, so it may intensify any feelings of anxiety or apprehension you are experiencing.
- Talk to us about how you’re feeling. We don’t know exactly how you’re feeling unless you tell us, so we respectfully request that you do exactly that. If you keep us in the loop about your feelings, we will do our best to put you at ease and make you more comfortable.
During this time of year when candy and sweets are consumed in abundance, please don’t let your fear of going to the dentist keep you away. Let us work with you and help you through it to maximize your oral health.
