If you reside in New York State and have a child entering grade K, 2, 4, 7, or 10 you should be aware of the school dental health certificate. NYS passed a law requiring New York State public schools to ask students for a dental health certificate. Schools must also provide a list of dentists which provide free or reduced cost dental examinations.

The goal of the NYS dental program is to ensure the health and well-being of each student and to help establish a dental home. According to the New York State Education Department, “only about 50% of school aged children visit a dentist once a year”. That’s an alarming statistic for this day and age.
