Teeth are AmazingNow that we are in August, school will be back in session before we know it. As you start your back-to-school shopping, you may be focused on backpacks, folders, pencils and other supplies. What about teeth cleaning – is that on your school list?

Moore Family Dental is happy to assist families in Western New York with the school dental health certificate forms.  For your convenience, here is a copy of the dental health certificate form.

For all New York State residents with children entering grade K, 2, 4, 7, or 10 you should be familiar with the school dental health policy.  In 2007, NYS passed a law requiring New York State public schools to ask students for a dental certificate. Schools must also provide a list of dentists which provide free or reduced cost dental examinations.

The underlying goal of this program is to ensure the health and well-being of each student and to help establish a dental home.  According to the New York State Education Department, “only about 50% of school aged children visit a dentist once a year”.  That’s an alarming statistic for this day and age.  Here are two additional factoids which support this program:

More than 51 million school hours are lost each year because of dental-related illness
Tooth decay remains one of the most common childhood diseases- 5 times as common as asthma
